TISFF unveils lineup for int’l competition section

Eight Iranian films are to vie at the Int’l Competition section of Tehran Int’l Short Film Festival in Iran.

Eight Iranian films have made their way to the International Competition section of Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) in Iran.

The names of the eight films, which were announced on Thursday, include ‘White Clad’ by Reza Fahimi.

The short film is about an old woman who gives a block of local cheese she has made to Ahmad, a 10-year-old boy, in order to give it to his father, who is a teacher in the village, so the father can mediate and stop the execution of her young son.

‘Meatophile’ was also among the selected films.

Directed by Farid Haji, the film narrates the story of an old overweight cook, who works at a college kitchen, and steals lamb meat.

Shiva Sadeq-Asadi's animated film ‘Crab’ is also included on the list.

It is about a shy isolated boy interested in his school’s theater troupe. But, he is only offered the role of a crab.

The lineup also includes ‘Red Fire’ (Atash sorkh) by Mona Abdollahshahi, ‘Power Tower’ (Dakal) by Babak Mostafavi, Fateme Mohammadi’s ‘Branded’ and Mahyar Mandegar’s ‘White Winged Horse’ in addition to a documentary by Jamshid Farajvand Farda.

Organized by the Iranian Youth cinema Society, the Tehran International Short Film Festival is one of the oldest short film festivals in Iran and the region.

The TISFF is a member of the International Short Film Conference (ISFC), according to the festival’s website.

The 37th edition of the hybrid festival will kick off next week.

The virtual and in-person screenings will take place on January 20-24 with the winners to be announced on January 25.
